September 1st through 4th, 2017
2017’s Historic Festival 35… A Look Ahead
Lime Rock Park’s Historic Festival 34 was a truly exciting occasion.
The serious and expensive enhancements made to the track were evident to all; we owe a lot of thanks to Skip Barber and his team for taking their responsibilities so seriously. Even more work will be completed by Labor Day Weekend 2016 (September 2-5), when Historic Festival 34 takes place.
This year’s format will remain the same. Test & Tune is Tuesday, August 30, and we encourage drivers to book Test & Tune in advance, and then you may leave your trucks and trailers in the paddock Tuesday onward.
For those not testing Tuesday, load-in is Thursday, September 1 – which is also the day of the 17-mile Historic Race Car Parade. This popular “rally” starts on Sam Posey Straight at 4:00 p.m. and winds up about 40 minutes later in nearby Falls Village for the highly enjoyable Street Fair.
Practice and qualifying for all groups is Friday, September 1; all groups race on Saturday and Monday.
Sunday will see the superb cars entered in the Sunday in the Park Concours d’Elegance dominating Sam Posey Straight, with the entirety of the remaining circuit covered by the fascinating groups of special interest automobiles that constitute the Gathering of the Marques element.
Concours application forms and further information for those who wish to participate in Sunday’s happenings will be available soon at limerockhistorics.com.
For those of you who wish to take part in the vintage and historic racing, an entry form is attached (and soon available on the Historics website).
We again expect to run nine race groups in 2016, providing the amount of track time you’ve told us you prefer. There will be at least two sessions on track each day for each group.
Amongst the groups we will welcome this year will be: Pre-1939 Competition cars; Formula Ford; as we have in the past, Sports & GT cars of varying dimensions and years, placed in appropriate groups; Historic Trans-Am cars (real cars, no clones); and in a first for the Festival, and we think in the U.S., Historic Sedans (“Tin Tops” built prior to 1970). A list of eligible Tin Tops will be available for scrutiny on the Festival website, but if you have a competition Tatra or a BMW 800, or a Saab Le Mans or Rally car, we may be able to find you a spot amongst the Minis and Magnettes! The idea is for you to have fun with interesting automobiles and for our spectators to enjoy the excitement which these cars generate.
The Wells Fargo Advisors Driver’s Lounge will again be in full swing, thanks to Vice President Christopher Benjamin. We will keep entry fees within reason, and any marginal increase will be devoted to further improvements to the track and not to the bottom line of the Historic Festival. We will have exciting announcements about special guests and honored collectors soon and those will be posted on the website in due course.
We believe that the great majority of competitors in last year’s Festival showed common sense as well as speed. We had very few on-track incidents, and no calamities. The observer group led by Steve, Bill and Charles proved their worth and we will continue to deploy it. Nevertheless, we do ask you to remember that you are driving cars which do not benefit necessarily from the kind of safety features implicit in a contemporary competition machine and most of you are not racing week in and week out. We want you all to thoroughly enjoy your time at the Festival and to show your colleagues on track the kind of respect for them and their prized automotive gems that you would like them to show you.
Further information and instructions will be posted on a regular basis. We would like your entries to be submitted by June 1, and please make sure that the details published in your entry forms reflect the actual specification of the car when it is submitted to the corps of scrutineers led by J.R. Mitchell. We will be forwarding further information regarding appropriate tires for each group shortly.
We are looking forward to receiving your entries and to seeing you at 2016’s Lime Rock Park Historic Festival 34. For questions you have at this point, please contact email@example.com and we will reply promptly.
