An Exhibition at the Saratoga Auto Museum
The Vintage Sports Car Club of America
Celebrating 60 Years of Preserving the Vintage Spirit
The Saratoga Auto Museum’s exhibition honoring the Vintage Sports Car Club of America on its 60th anniversary with an exhibit of cars and automobilia from the oldest vintage racing club in the United States is now open. The exhibit will run until late March.
The Saratoga Auto Museum is known to many members of the club but if you don’t know SAM, it is located on the grounds of the Saratoga Spa State Park in a beautifully restored red brick building not far from the Gideon Putnam Hotel and the SPAC amphitheater. One of its missions is to celebrate auto racing in New York State and includes two cars from the early days of sports car racing at Watkins Glen, the Erwin Goldschmidt Allard and George Weaver’s “Poison Lil”.
In addition to the regular exhibits the museum mounts special exhibits of from 12 to 15 cars around a theme such as a single make like BMW or important individuals, most recently an exhibit honored Sam Posey with cars from his life and racing career. The exhibits are positioned with excellent graphics and descriptions celebrating the cars. Museum staffs are experienced at hosting events supporting the exhibitions and do a great job with publicity.
The museum is easy to reach from the New York City area or the Boston area with both being a little over 3 hours away.
